THE Carlton Football Club is delighted to kick off day one of the AFLW Sign and Trade Period by announcing the signing of reigning Carlton AFLW Best and Fairest winner Mimi Hill to a one-year contract extension.

The 20-year-old was already committed for season eight, and today put pen to paper to ensure she would remain at IKON Park until at least the end of 2024.

The strong show of faith by Hill follows a remarkable end to last year, in which she not only entrenched herself as a star of the competition on the field, but as a leader of her football club off it.

In what was her first full season of AFLW, following an ACL injury midway through her debut year in 2021, Hill was simply brilliant.

After being named the NAB AFLW Rising Star winner in season six, she continued her rapid rise into the game’s elite, averaging 23 disposals as the focal point of a young midfield, showcasing her quality through a picture of consistency and class.

Hill’s professionalism, dedication and drive to set an example for her teammates to follow, exhibits a maturity well beyond her years.

Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd said Hill had all the qualities in a person that the program aims to base itself around moving forward.

“To have Mimi show such enormous faith in the Club by adding an additional year to her contract tells you everything you need to know about her character and commitment to this football club,” Lloyd said.

“For someone so early in their career, to be prepared to take ownership and thrive on the responsibility in helping to take this program into its next era is seriously impressive.

“Every Carlton person should feel genuinely excited to have a player of the calibre of Mimi so invested in driving this football club to the position we are all striving to see it reach.

“We will continue work through the remainder of the AFLW Sign and Trade Period with a clear focus in mind, to ensure we establish a playing group that is unwavering and united in their commitment to take this program forward.”
