CARLTON'S young star Mia Austin has been selected at centre half-forward in the 2023 22under22 team.

At just 19 years old, Austin has made a name for herself in the AFLW. After missing the majority of season seven following a serious injury, Austin came back firing, putting her talent on full display.

Earning a Rising Star nomination in Round 8, Austin impressed with two goals while also collecting 10 disposals and laying five tackles.

Finishing the season as Carlton's leading goalkicker, Austin kicked 11 goals whilst also ranking amongst some of the top players in the league for contested marks and second at Carlton, behind Breann Moody.

This is Austin’s first nomination and selection in the 22under22 team after joining Carlton through the 2022 AFLW Draft.

Carlton AFLW Senior Coach Mathew Buck said he couldn’t have been more impressed with Austin’s season.

“It has been great to watch Mia’s development across the season. She is incredibly driven and wants to get the best out of her game,” Buck said.

“She is always engaged and actively participates in team meetings and wants to learn new ways she can improve her craft. She is a great team player and has many traits we really value as a Club.

“Mia has returned from injury with a real confidence and tenacity. She is a consistent and reliable option up forward and to be the leading goalkicker at such a young age is a fantastic effort.”
