DYNAMIC forward and back-to-back Coleman Medallist Charlie Curnow is now a co-vice captain of the Carlton Football Club.

In being appointed to the role, Curnow joins Sam Walsh and Jacob Weitering as co-vice captains while Patrick Cripps will continue as sole skipper.

The four-player leadership group will now see a vice-captain leading each line (forwards, midfielders and backline).

Curnow’s appointment was made after close consultation with the coaching group and voting from the playing group.

The 27-year-old is heading into his ninth AFL season this year.

Curnow’s on-field standout and consistent performances in recent seasons have received deserved praise, booting 145 goals to lead the competition’s goalkicking in 2022 and 2023, without missing a game.

However, it is the work he has done off the field - for his teammates - which has earned him vice captaincy of the football club.

A selfless individual who has a deep care for those around him, Curnow seldom seeks to place the focus on himself, instead preferring to highlight those around him, both on and off the field.

Charlie's presence and energy makes people drawn to him. He’s a big family man with strong core values that have become infectious throughout our football club.

His care for his teammates as people is also an endearing quality that makes Curnow central to the incredible cohesion the playing group has established in recent seasons.

“Charlie is a great bloke, a quality player and is growing into a great leader amongst our playing group,” captain Patrick Cripps said.

“His presence and energy makes people drawn to him. He’s a big family man with strong core values that have become infectious throughout our football club and Charlie has played a massive role in establishing that.

“Charles has unique traits and strengths that as a leader complements and helps grow our leadership group. Between the four of us, including ‘Weiters’ and ‘Walshy’, we each lead differently, in how we communicate and push ourselves and those around us. That diversity will help us connect and get the best out of ourselves and as a wider playing group.

“Culturally we are in a strong spot with a clear view of our identity as a group and as leaders, with a clear focus on what makes us a strong side. As a group we are hungry to keep levelling up and taking our connection to the next level. As leaders we will drive each other and the playing group to maintain high standards, ensuring we continue to have an environment we all love being part of, as we strive for our ambition."
