The Carlton Football Club can confirm that Eliza Wood will be moved to the inactive list ahead of the 2025 AFLW Season after she suffered an ACL injury in the Club’s Round 12 VFLW match against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.
Wood was signed to Carlton earlier this year from the Club’s reserve team, where she was the VFLW captain. after captain Kerryn Peterson announced her pregnancy.
Blues Head of AFLW Ash Naulty said it was cruel news for Wood, with the2024 VFLW Best and Fairest and Best Club Person doing everything she could over the last 12 months to earn an opportunity at AFLW level.
“It is a really unfortunate situation for Eliza, who has not put one foot wrong since she joined the side earlier this year,” Naulty said.
“Eliza is an incredibly hard worker and her dedication to her craft has been really impressive. There is no doubt that she will put her all into rehab and getting back to football.
“Everyone at the Club has thrown their arms around Eliza and will continue to show her support as she commences her rehabilitation towards a full recovery.”
