DURING Ashton Moir’s Rising Star performance against Melbourne, commentator Nathan Buckley brought the youngster’s ambidexterity to everyone’s attention.

Of Moir’s four goals, his first was a right-footed snap, while the next three all came via set shots on his left foot.

While Buckley was under the impression that Moir alternates with every kick, the tidbit wasn’t entirely accurate - but it’s still just as impressive.

“It depends on what side of the ground I’m on. If I’m on the right side, I’ll kick on my left foot - and if I’m on the left side, I’ll kick on my right foot,” Moir told media on Wednesday.

“It’s just something I’ve been doing my whole life.”

Moir said it comes from the teaching of his mum and dad, who he said “grew up doing Taekwondo”.

That may have been a bit of an undersell, given his mum Cynthia represented Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

What was Taekwondo’s loss for Ashton was Carlton’s gain, with the youngster looking like a natural at the level with every passing game.

“They’ve been drilling it into me since I was younger: now, it’s become second nature. Always doing both sides, in everything I do.

“I was no good [at Taekwondo], no good at all. Mum and Dad had their own Taekwondo centre: I did it maybe for a week, and they said ‘maybe call it quits’.”
