The Carlton Football Club is excited to announce its ninth annual Carlton Respects AFLW game, which will highlight the Club’s last home game, Round 11 against GWS.

The AFLW team will take to the field in orange socks to raise awareness for Carlton Respects and its mission to build respect for a brighter future.

Established in 2016 in response to the alarming rates of family and domestic violence, the Carlton Respects initiative strives to utilise the power of footy to raise awareness, funds and collective action to put an end to violence.

The match, alike to the AFL match in Round 19, will carry the campaign theme, “Respect starts with us,” which strongly reflects the Club’s purpose of taking meaningful steps together to build a community of respect allies.

The reality remains confronting: this year, one woman in Australia has lost her life to family or domestic violence every six days, while two in five women report experiencing physical violence since the age of 15.

These stark statistics highlight why programs such as Carlton Respects are vital in working to stop violence before it starts.

The Carlton Football Club strive t to be leaders within this space and with the support of experts and lived experience, Carlton are actively shaping attitudes, raising understanding, and inspiring behaviours that create a more gender-equitable society.

This year at the AFLW match, fans have the chance to walk through a Road to Respect Impact Exhibit and experience firsthand the primary school students’ artistic interpretation of what Road to Respect means to them.

The flagship program, Road to Respect, combines a free online learning platform with classroom-based workshops for primary schools. The program empowers young people to manage their emotions, ask for help, challenge unhelpful gender stereotypes, and foster respectful relationships from an early age.

There will also be a powerful pre-game performance for fans to enjoy.

To help promote and raise awareness for the Carlton Respects game earlier this year, Marc Pittonet and Harriet Cordner featured in a powerful and deeply moving video, which brought attention to the realities of gender inequality in our society.

If fans are unable to get to the game, they are encouraged to head to the campaign hub for more information and to purchase a virtual seat to show their support from afar.

Across the Club Carlton Respects has received widespread support, we would like to thank our AFLW match day Gold Partners Bupa & Ampol, Silver Parter, VicHealth and Bronze Partners, Great Southern Bank & Figure 3 Constructions.
