Following their first All-Australian blazers, Harriet Cordner and Dayna Finn sit down and reflect on this season. Here is what they had to say:

Cordner on the leadership group:

"It was made quite seamless from a leadership point of view. It was a really positive experience as well. It sort of helped me get out of my own self, and think more broadly about the group which I think helped my footy."

Finn on season 2025

"It was a great year all round. There were definitely a lot of highs and a few lows. I didn't want it to end which is always a good thing. The connection we built throughout the season was something we haven't felt or had before. We really saw that flourish, I really enjoyed it."

Finn and Cordner on playing every game this season:

Finn: "My goals this year were to play injury free and play every game and become a consistent footballer. I guess I ticked those boxes, so that is important. At the end of the season we had everyone available, and that's a reason we were so successful."

Cordner: "The work we put in in December/January post-season last year, we were all pretty hungry to get after it. A lot of that focus went into a really strong 10-12 week gym period and running block, for me personally that was probably what set up my ability to focus on the footy stuff."

"It's what laid the foundations for the season, and hit the final round with 30 players available to choose from. You don't win grand finals in that period, but you can definitely lose them. We will be looking to do that and some in the coming months."

Cordner on being named in the All-Australian team:

"I was really honoured to be named in the squad, and to be named next to Dayna and Ronnie (Fitzpatrick). It always nice to have that recognition, it felt really nice to on Monday to stand up there and have that blazer, and was even nicer to do it alongside Dayna."

Finn on how she took her game to the next level:

"I went away and did a lot of work in the off season to get better as a footballer. it didn't happen overnight. i really found my feet in the game and was supported by all my teammates, so it really allowed me to flourish. I was so honoured to get my first blazer, and proud of the work I put in behind the scenes."

Cordner on the backline's connection in 2025:

"We did really focus on connection. It sort of organically happened. Our ability to lean into the fun and enjoyment, that really showed in the way we connected on field. Connection is a really great foundation to build success, and I think we saw that. I'm really excited to see what we can do with another off season and another opportunity to add more layers next season."

Finn on her friendship with Irish teammate Ronnie:

"I can't speak highly enough of Ronnie, I don't know why I can emotional speaking about her sometimes. Coming here together, she has been such a great teammate."

Cordner on leaning into the new pre-game approach:

"It's been something I've learnt about this season, being able to have that balance pre-game and understanding you can still be a really high performing athlete. It was a great opportunity to lean in to the fun we have pre-game on game day. I absolutely loved it, you can do both and it's something that will help me enjoy the journey of my football and not be hung up on minute moments in games."

Finn on the preliminary final loss:

"I think what we can take away is the finals experience. Obviously didn't make it last year, and being able to back up that many games. We've played against the best."

"We've laid the foundations this year, next year is a totally different story. It doesn't come around too often, so focusing on taking a good break and coming back ready to go after a good pre-season."
