He’s been described as a ‘favourite son’ at South Barwon and made it on the Geelong Football League’s top 50 players of all time, but in 2016 Dale Amos will be swapping the bay for Lygon Street.
Working alongside senior coach Brendon Bolton, Amos has been appointed as the Blues’ new backline assistant coach.
The 38-year-old comes to Carlton from Geelong where he has worked since 2009, spending three seasons as the Cats’ VFL coach before joining the AFL coaching ranks.
His impressive coaching record includes leading South Barwon to a hat-trick of Geelong Football League premierships (2005-2007) and in 2006 he was named the GFL coach of the year.
As a player, Amos was a champion for South Barwon, having played 216 games including three premierships in 2001, 2005 and 2007. The brilliant halfback was also a dual best and fairest winner for the club. Unfortunately his decorated player-coach career came to an end in 2007 due to knee injuries.
Amos says he’s looking forward to working with new coach Brendon Bolton and the Blues defenders.
“I really enjoy working with people and I had a really close relationship with the defenders that I worked with at Geelong,” Amos said.
“I’d really like to create a close group, a group that enjoys working together, and hopefully we have some success along the way.”
