"LIFE-CHANGING."

"Amazing."

“Surreal.”

From the Eastern Ranges to Carlton. Charlotte Wilson and Emerson Woods won’t be forgetting the first time they pulled on the Navy Blue anytime soon.

The former under-18 teammates both made their AFLW debuts in the most memorable of circumstances last night against arch-enemies Collingwood.

And while things didn’t look great with five minutes remaining, they also managed to celebrate their first win, alongside fellow draftee Abbie McKay.

Speaking post-match, it’s safe to say the 'unbelievable feeling' was mutual.

“I can’t describe it, honestly. It’s the best feeling I’ve ever had,” Wilson said.

“It was really awesome… It was a surreal feeling,” Woods said.

As the Blues trailed by 10 points at the final change, Wilson and Woods may have started to think that their first games wouldn’t quite have the dream result.

However, a late snap from Darcy Vescio - with thanks to a goal-line shepherd from Tayla Harris - meant they were able to sing the famous Lily of Laguna tune post-match.

For Woods in particular, the scenes post-match had extra significance.

“I’ve looked up to the Blues my whole life, following the boys my whole life,” Woods said.

“I never thought this would be able to happen when I was young, to be honest it didn’t even cross my mind.

“It was really amazing, I can’t believe I’m here. It couldn’t be better.”

As Carlton celebrated its second win of the season and climbed to second of the Conference B ladder, Wilson said the “great vibes” post-match would live with her for a long time.

Making it even more special was the support she had at Ikon Park on a scorching Melbourne night.

“I’m so thankful and so honoured that I was able to be part of that, Wilson said.

“It was incredible — family and friends came from everywhere to support. I had heaps of friends from school, it was really great for them to show up — there was huge support from the crowd.”

With Woods’ last outing seeing her part of a VFL Women’s premiership, she said the feeling last night rivalled the Grand Final glory of five months ago.

“It was very similar — the nerves were very similar and so was the end result” Woods said.

“I was on the bench [for the final goal]. It was nail-biting.”
