THERE’S still unfinished business for Carlton and Darcy Vescio.

The Blues will play in their first ever final this Saturday, hosting Fremantle at Ikon Park for a chance to play in the Grand Final.

If anyone thought that the Blues would be resting on their laurels after breaking their finals duck, think again.

As Vescio put it: “we haven’t come this far to only come this far”.

And as someone who has been at Ikon Park from day one, Vescio knows what this weekend will mean.

“For the girls that have been here since year one, it has been a really wild ride so far,” Vescio said.

“To be able to know that Saturday is coming and we’re in a position to pound on finals, it’s pretty amazing.

“Walking into the rooms at training, all the girls are so up and about to do it in front of our home crowd.”

Carlton has been on the improve since the opening game, winning four of its last five games and producing some of its very best football against the reigning premiers on Sunday.

Vescio said the beauty of finals football was that past games don’t matter: it’s only about the here and now.

She’s hopeful that it’s an environment which the Blues will relish.

“Finals is such a different breed of football. It doesn’t matter what’s happened so far during the season — all that matters is what you produce during the day,” she said.

“That’s what I love about finals footy.

“Footy is a game of ups and downs. If we’re able to put together a four-quarter effort, we’ll be able to match it with Freo.”

Both Carlton and Fremantle are in a unique position, having not played against one another during the season before playing in this Saturday’s preliminary final.

Vescio said the Blues would be feeding off the energy from the home crowd when they run out for a shot at history.

“We need as many Bluebaggers down here as possible,” she said.

“It’s so special playing on our home turf. To be able to play in front of the people we love, we thrive on that.

“Get down!”
