THE good news continued for the Navy Blues on the weekend, in the form of two young defenders returning from injury.

The Northern Blues got the perfect Easter weekend underway in style, recording a stunning three-point win over Collingwood at Victoria Park.

Two key pillars in that victory were Harrison Macreadie and Tom Williamson, who returned with aplomb from long-term injury layoffs.

Both came back to the action from back injury, slotting in seamlessly down back to the delight of senior coach Josh Fraser.

“I thought both of them performed really well first-up,” Fraser said post-match.
“They’ve had reasonably long layoffs from playing footy, they’ve both done a power of work to get themselves back up and running to this point.”

Macreadie recorded 17 disposals in his return game, while Williamson wasn’t far behind him with 15 disposals and five rebound 50s.

Pleasingly for the duo, they were able to stay involved and had big moments when the game was on the line.

Macreadie stood up with some key intercept marks late in the piece, while Williamson’s dare and delivery was on show as part of a second-quarter resurgence.

“For them to put themselves in the contest, have the game come at them and make decisions, they got better and better as the game went on,” Fraser said.

“I’m really please for both boys and they’ll be looking to build on their form moving into next week.”
