WITH two premierships from its 12 representative, the No.47 has quite the strike rate in Navy Blue.

But for the newest custodian in Josh Deluca, he’ll look at the jumper as something which has been a stepping stone in their careers.

Given the celebrations earlier this month, it is apt that Peter Francis - considered one of the best-on-ground in the 1979 Grand Final 40 years ago - is the games record holder of the guernsey.

Francis is one of two players to have played in a premiership in the number, alongside Neil Chandler in 1968.

However, with names like Wes Lofts and Mil Hanna starting out in the No.47, the jumper number has some unearthed gold when you look deeper.

Lofts’ first five games in 1960 were in the jumper, before the future premiership player, board member and Hall of Fame member transitioned to the No.20.

Then, Mil Hanna - who would join Lofts in the Hall of Fame in three years ago - played his debut before moving to the No.13.

And that’s not to mention fan favourite Darren Hulme, who started in the number before playing 102 games in the No.27.

As someone hoping to make the most of his second chance, Deluca can draw some motivation from the history of the jumper — one of the more understated in Carlton’s 155-year history.
