Teague: Carlton's most complete performance

R17 | Teague post-match David Teague speaks to the media after the Round 17 win over Sydney.

COMMITMENT to the job at hand.

That’s what defined an all-too-rare Carlton win in Sydney, according to the man who’d know best.

The Blues produced arguably their best four-quarter performance at the SCG, sealing just their second win at the venue since 1993.

Speaking post-match, interim coach David Teague said the manner in which the win came about was “the pleasing bit”.

“The four-quarter performance was really strong and we knew we had to be… the way we played was super impressive,” Teague said.

“Sydney is a team that just keeps coming at you, and we want to be a team that plays four quarters.

“We hadn’t done that yet and today was probably our best four-quarter performance against quality opposition.”

Highlighting the roles of Ed Curnow, Nic Newman and Lachie Plowman among others, Teague said the victory defined Carlton’s approach over the last six weeks.

He said the unconditional commitment to carrying out individual roles was what made a fourth win of the season a possibility.

“What we have done is clarified the roles of individuals and demanded them to get the job done,” he said.

“We’re not asking them, we’re not hoping they do it — no, they’ve got to get it done.

“The demand of each player on each other has been really strong as well.”

With a tongue-in-cheek comment about not finding itself five goals down, Teague said Carlton’s focus had already begun to shift towards the next assignment.

“I’m just loving the ride at the moment,” he said.

“Seeing [the players’] faces in that room afterwards, that brings a lot of joy to me and to the people at this football club and to the supporters.

“We’ve been really lucky — our supporters have been great.

“They’ve been getting behind us and I look forward to next week at Marvel Stadium, our supporters coming out and getting behind our guys again.”
