INFALLIBLE Carlton defender Liam Jones has earned a perfect 10 for his role in Saturday’s victory over Gold Coast.

The backman has topped the votes for the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award for his outstanding showing in Round 18.

Jones was awarded the full 10 votes for his tireless efforts in defence as one of five Blues to finish in the vote count for the performance.

The 28-year-old is back at his best after four consecutive outings, finishing the day at Marvel Stadium with nine spoils, 11 marks and 14 intercepts.

Carlton finished with the lion’s share of coaches’ votes,  with Ed Curnow (five votes), Harry Mckay (four votes), Sam Walsh (two votes) and Michael Gibbons (one vote) also acknowledged for their roles in the 24-point victory.

Curnow continued what has been an impressive run of form, closing out the day with 32 disposals and an influential six clearances.

Holding down the fort in attack, Harry McKay was a constant presence inside 50 against the Suns’ defence, clunking 10 marks and slotting two handy goals.

For his 27-disposal performance, Walsh drew acclaim once again with two votes: the first-year Blue featuring in five of the last six AFLCA votes.

The dynamic midfielder is showing no signs of slowing down, with this performance pushing him further ahead of any other first-year player in the competition on the leaderboard.

Gibbons rounded out Carlton’s representation, recording one vote for his 20-disposal, one-goal game.
