Samo playing to strengths

Two Tones | Samo joins the show Sam Petrevski-Seton joined Tony De Bolfo to discuss his 2019 season on the newest edition of The Two Tones.

UP forward, in the middle, now down back.

His career at Ikon Park may not yet be three years old, but Sam Petrevski-Seton has already seen a lot of what the AFL has to offer.

The Halls Creek Cowboy has relished a role across half back in recent weeks, rounding out the set after featuring heaving in midfield and up forward across his opening two seasons.

Already 59 games into his burgeoning career, Petrevski-Seton - speaking on The Two Tones - said the move to defence was something he was optimistic of making his own.

“It’s a good thing for myself and also I’m just playing my role for the team,” Petrevski-Seton said.

“Wherever they want me, or where the coaches need me to play, I’ll be focussed on that particular role and focussed on getting it done.

“We’ve got a few injuries to our half backs so for me to go down there, it’s been good for me and the team.”

It was Petrevski-Seton’s best performance in the role since shifting to half back, collecting 22 disposals and seven rebound 50s in the win over Gold Coast.

Over the last fortnight, 84 per cent of his disposals have come in the defensive half, with the game unfolding in front of the 21-year-old.

With his ball-use and ability to escape congestion a feature, Petrevski-Seton said he would continue to bring his main assets to the table.

“The way I play, one of my strengths is my kicking — [now I’m] coming out of the half-back line,” he said.

“I’m playing to my strengths.”

Petrevski-Seton arrived at Royal Parade from Halls Creek at the end of 2016.

Approaching three years since his arrival, he believes he is well and truly immersed at his new club — but he doesn’t forget his roots.

“I’ve come a long way from home,” he said.

“Being down here and playing footy, it’s exciting time for myself but also I’m doing the best I can out out on the track to not only represent the Carlton Football Club, but my family as well.

“That gives me a buzz.”
