THE NOMINATIONS are in for the upcoming AFL Players’ Association MVP awards on Thursday 29 August.

Three players from each club are nominated for the most valuable player each season, as well as one player from each club for Most Courageous, Best First Year and Best Captain.

Captain Patrick Cripps is joined by impressive defender Jacob Weitering as well as youngster Sam Walsh for the MVP category.

Unsurprisingly, Walsh has also been nominated as the Club’s representative for Best First Year. The midfielder - who broke the record for most disposals in a debut year - is the hot favourite to take home the NAB AFL Rising Star award on Friday.

Walsh is joined by Weitering, who has enjoyed a stellar year in defence. Playing 20 games, the 21-year-old was a rock for the Blues down back, averaging over seven intercepts and one percenters per game.

Cripps’ influence has been spoken of at length, with Carlton’s co-captain likely to receive a second straight selection in the All Australian team. Having placed runner-up in the award last season, he will once again be among the top of the pile in the AFLPA MVP once again.

Key defender Liam Jones is up for selection as Most Courageous, while Cripps is joined by counterpart Sam Docherty as Best Captain.
