THREE of Carlton’s brightest young talents have been named in the AFL Players’ 22under22 team.

Matching the Blues’ equal-best total in 2016, Harry McKay, Sam Walsh and Jacob Weitering have been voted in by the fans.

The full team was announced at the AFL Players’ MVP Awards in Melbourne on Thursday night.

Weitering - named at centre half back - achieved his second berth in the team, having also been voted in following his debut season of 2016.

The impressive young defender took his game to another level throughout the 2019 campaign, playing 20 games and proving to be a leader of the Blues’ emerging backline.

He was joined by first-time nominees McKay (forward pocket) and Walsh (wing) in the team.

In his fourth season in the competition, McKay enjoyed a breakout season at the level, ranking No.3 in the competition for contested marks while also kicking the most goals of any Blue.

One of three first-year players in the line-up, Walsh’s debut campaign has been unlike any other. The favourite for the NAB AFL Rising Star award, Walsh broke the record for most disposals in a debut year since 1999 while showing maturity and class beyond his years.

Previous Carlton nominees also include co-captains Patrick Cripps and Sam Docherty, as well as enigmatic forward Charlie Curnow.
