VFLW review: Midfielders

Blues Banter | VFLW Jess Hosking is in charge of the microphone after training for the latest edition of Blues Banter, brought to you by Endeavour Group.

FOLLOWING Carlton’s 2019 VFLW season, assistant coach Kerry Saunders provided the following words on the Blues' midfielders:

Marnie Jarvis

Games: 13 | Average disposals: 6.6

Marnie was the quietest of our youngsters. She produced good skills either side of her body and added some solid defence to her game this season.

Katie Stone

Games: 2 | Average hitouts: 15

Katie started very competitively, but missed most of the season due to injury and holidays.

Lauren Munday

Games: 11 | Average disposals: 6.7

Lauren was the fastest player in our two-kilometre time trial. She used that fitness all over the field and her skills were impressive. She was injured late in the season but showed promising signs.

Teresa Cassar

Games: 8 | Average disposals: 6.4

Teresa is a very determined and close-checking player. She demonstrated great closing speed and tackling during the season.

Sina Mason

Games: 11 | Average disposals: 7.1

Sina’s footy knowledge was great throughout the season. She always knew where to be on the field.

Britney Gutknecht

Games: 4 | Average disposals: 10

Britney joined us late from Northern Knights. She was strong around the contest and had a great competitive attitude.

Gabrielle Newton

Games: 2 | Average disposals: 13

Gabby only played a couple of games but showed off her eagerness to contest the footy, as well as displaying her all-round skills. Her aerial ability was impressive.

Jaime Nelson

Games: 6 | Average hit-outs: 12.2

Jaime had a season of great learning and development. She had to play a few games as senior ruck and competed well against some of the best.

Abbie McKay

Games: 12 | Average disposals: 14.8

Abbie showed glimpses of her talent this season, highlighted by her great hands and ability to read the play well.

Breann Moody

Games: 6 | Average hitouts: 25.2

Breann played a few games early, but her standout game was against the NT Thunder, where she showed her real ability. In that game, she did everything from applying pressure, marking and taking the game on.

Chloe Dalton

Games: 5 | Average disposals: 15.2

Chloe had a great season and added plenty of run and carry to her game. Her speed and ability to mark on top of the pack was brilliant.

Sarah Hosking

Games: 8 | Average disposals: 17.1

Sarah’s experience and advice was invaluable to our young group. She led by example both on and off the field.

Katie Loynes

Games: 4 | Average disposals: 15.3

Katie added real competitiveness to the team. She had a great ball-winning ability, no matter where she played.

Madison Prespakis

Games: 6 | Average disposals: 22.3

We only had Maddy for a few games but could see her working towards great form. She knew exactly how to find the footy.

Alison Downie

Games: 1 | Average hitouts: 23

Alison only played one game this season but has already shown she will be the premier ruck again in 2020.
