ALL eyes on the draft.

Dreams will be realised at the Melbourne Showgrounds during tomorrow’s 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

With seven picks inside the top 30 of the Vic Metro pool, Carlton is ready to welcome some exciting new talent to own the future at Ikon Park in 2020 and beyond.

Here’s a Navy Blue outlook on what to expect.

Where the Blues stand

Carlton holds seven picks heading into the draft, with four of those sitting within the top 40 selections.

However, with the AFL Women’s Draft seeing players commit to zones, the Blues will have access to seven of the top 30 Vic Metro talents in the pool.

And the recruiting team from Ikon Park won’t have to wait long, entering the draft with pick No.2. Carlton’s second pick has already been utilised, selecting Grace Egan with selection No.13 as part of the AFLW Academy bidding process.

The Blues hold a strong draft hand after acquiring picks Nos.2, 26, 44 and 59 in the trade of Brianna Davey to Collingwood.

Picks: 2, 13 (Grace Egan), 26, 36, 44, 52, 59

Vic Metro pool: 2, 9, 12, 18, 22, 26, 30

Drafts gone by

Carlton heads into the 2019 draft in the hopes of building on the exciting young talent from drafts in previous years.

It’s hard to look beyond Carlton’s No.3 draft selection from the 2018 instalment, where they selected Madison Prespakis.

It was a selection that paid immediate dividends, with Prespakis enjoying an outstanding first year in Navy Blue: she finished the season as Carlton’s joint best-and-fairest winner and the 2019 NAB AFLW Rising Star.

Prespakis wasn’t alone from the draft class, with Jayde Van Dyk, Charlotte Wilson and Jess Edwards joining her in the 2019 AFLW Grand Final.
