The Carlton Football Club has appointed experienced coach Will Sexton to its AFLW coaching staff, stepping into the development coach role.
Sexton joins the Blues in 2026 with a strong coaching pedigree, having spent multiple seasons as development coach at Geelong AFLW before serving as assistant coach (midfield) at Port Melbourne in the VFL.
A former VFL player himself, he brings a wealth of on-field experience and a genuine passion for developing players and maximising their potential at every level.
Beyond his work with Carlton's emerging playing group, Sexton will also play a key role in shaping the team's stoppage structures alongside midfield coach Aasta O’Connor.
With 15 of Carlton's squad aged under 25, the Club is committed to building a group with both immediate impact and long-term growth in mind.
In his development coaching role, Sexton will work on sharpening fundamental skills and deepening players' tactical understanding of the game, helping both the younger players coming through and the broader list.
Lloyd Perris will take on the role of assistant coach (backline) after previously working as development coach in 2026.
General Manager of Football Chris Davies said the Club was delighted to welcome Sexton to IKON Park.
"Will brings a great set of skills and experience that we feel will really benefit our young, hungry and eager to learn group," Davies said.
"He has well-rounded coaching and playing experience and understands the demands of elite football and uses that to get the best out of players.
"Part of his role will focus on our stoppage structures and we think this will help give our side an edge this season. It will help grow players understanding around the system, helping them to own it under pressure and being able to adapt it in the moment.
"We're looking forward to seeing the connection he builds with the players and the impact he has both on and off the field."
