Carlton has made one change to its line-up for King's Birthday Eve.

Co-vice captain Jacob Weitering has been withdrawn from the Blues' squad for Sunday night’s clash with Essendon.

The defender underwent a scan this afternoon, which confirmed a minor calf strain.

With the Club having the bye next week, Weitering will be given the fortnight to recover and is aiming to play against GWS in Round 15.

Wade Derksen has been added to the side, with Lewis Young named as an emergency alongside Zac Williams and Cooper Lord.

Derksen's inclusion for his fourth senior match means he'll be one of seven Blues on Sunday who have played less than 13 AFL games, as the team's youngsters continue to impress.

In-form defender Lachie Cowan will play his 50th game in Navy Blue, with the boyhood Bluebagger debuting for the Blues back in Round 1 of the 2023 season against Richmond.

Sunday’s clash will be the 256th time Carlton has taken on arch rival Essendon, while marking the fourth consecutive year that the two sides will go head-to-head on King’s Birthday Eve.
