EVERYONE'S favourite teammate, the infectious personality, "like a brother".
Time to run it back. Just last week, Ollie Florent's three fellow Swans-turned-Blues - Will Hayward, George Hewett and Nic Newman - spoke on the milestone man ahead of game No.200.
Seven days on, Hayward achieves the same feat, so it only felt right for Florent, Hewett and Newman to go again on someone who has made an instant impact at IKON Park.
Speaking to Carlton Media, here's what Hayward's three long-time mates had to say about the 200-gamer.
Ollie Florent: I see Will like he’s my brother: we’ve had so much time together, there have been so many ups and downs on the journey. It’s too much to put into words in a short interview, but overall, I’m so blessed to have him as a mate. To be able to share such similar journeys and be able to come to the same club, it’s unheard of. I’m very lucky to have him.
George Hewett: Will’s like Ollie in that he makes you feel very good about yourself: he has very good energy. He’s just a happy guy and that rubs off on people. Will has always been one of the best team-first players in a football sense: he always plays for the team, and I know that’s why his Swans teammates loved him and it’s no different here at Carlton.
Nic Newman: Will’s one of those guys that if you ask someone who their favourite teammate is, he’d be in a lot of people’s top fives. Maybe he didn’t get enough love as he should externally: he has some good finishes from outside 50 and some good marks, but some of his gut running and selflessness and efforts to bring the ball to ground are unbelievable. He’s a guy you absolutely love playing with, and he is always team-first. He doesn’t care if he kicks a goal or has 20 touches, he’ll do whatever the team needs from him. He’s everything you want in a teammate.
George Hewett: It’s just as simple as making everyone on the list feel good about themselves. He’s always mucking around with the staff and coaches. It’s pretty easy to see that whenever you have a conversation with Will, you come out of it laughing or smiling. That’s a pretty good way to be.
Ollie Florent: As a person, he’s very loyal, driven and also just a laugh. He doesn’t take life too seriously, but when it is, he’s always the first one to reach out and be a mate. He’s got a great balance.
Nic Newman: Off-field, he’s similar to Ollie but in a different way in that he’s always up and about. You walk in early in the morning when you’re a bit tired, and he’s already up and about and jovial. Whichever room he walks into, he brings joy. He’s a great person to have around the Club. He brings energy and fun, he always sees the positives in life - similar to me and ‘Weiters’, obviously. Him and Ollie offset us. He always puts others above himself.
Ollie Florent: The way he competes and wears his heart on his sleeve, he brings the energy to the football club. He brings so much pressure and when he’s up and about, he’s pretty hard to stop. That’s something that he’s had in his game for a long time, and it’s infectious. He brings the crowd along the journey with him.
Nic Newman: It’s taken a bit of getting used to when it comes to running out with him again. He loves getting involved in a celebration, even when it’s not his own - someone like ‘Cotts’ kicking a goal against GWS, Will is the first one over to celebrate. It’s genuine, and that’s why we love him. He is genuinely so happy for his teammates. He’s been a really important driver of that stuff.
George Hewett: As a player, he’s highly competitive but also highly skilful. He can be a match winner, he’s shown that at two clubs now. He’s always been team-first and he’s got that great profile and competitiveness that you can play him anywhere. You know he’ll do the job at least an 8/10, and he’ll always kick a goal from 55 on the boundary as we’ve seen this year. I’m pretty sure he’s been happy with that.
Nic Newman: He laughs at his own jokes, but he’s funny, so he can get away with it. He does some funny stuff: I’ve never seen someone come in and kiss the Director of High Performance on the cheek every morning. He takes great joy in winding ‘Weiters’ up, which always brings me joy - and yet I’ve never seen someone get affection out of ‘Weiters’ like Will has in a short amount of time. He’s a character.
George Hewett: I find him really funny. He loves to make people laugh. I love the confidence with which he goes for his jokes, that’s for sure. As a person, he’s so infectious.
Ollie Florent: He does love his gags, he loves the Twitter stuff. I’ve seen it for a long time: he’s brought the gags across from Sydney and is trying to see if they land or not here. I get a lot of amusement out of that.
