DAMIAN Truslove speaks on the performances of every AFL-listed Blue in the VFL Round 20 clash against St Kilda.
4. Ollie Hollands
27 disposals, seven marks, six tackles
Ollie played a combination of half-back and inside mid. He worked hard to outnumber at contest and found plenty of the ball, while his tackling was strong again.
6. Zac Williams (first half only)
18 disposals, eight contested possessions, three intercepts
Zac unfortunately went off before half-time after receiving a knock to the throat. Before then, he was probably our best player, winning and halving contests, providing plenty of bounce and helping us change angles with the ball. He was also an excellent leader.
8. Lachie Fogarty
13 disposals, four tackles, five inside 50s
‘Fog’ played inside midfield and across half-forward. He worked really hard to support contests, while his positioning off the ball - both offensively and defensively - was very good. He was another strong leader on the day.
16. Ben Camporeale
27 disposals, nine contested possessions
Ben Camporeale played inside midfield as per normal, showing his toughness and hardness around contests and stoppages. He worked hard to create numbers at contests, and I thought he fought the game out well across all four quarters.
21. Lucas Camporeale
19 disposals, seven marks, one goal
Lucas played on the wing and worked hard both ways, supporting defensively while also looking to attack and drive towards goal. His ability to control the outside was very good, and he continues to work hard on his fundamental skills.
23. Jacob Weitering
19 disposals, 12 marks, six intercepts
‘Weiters’ obviously played key back and was a real leader for our young backline. He took 12 marks on the back of some really strong positioning, which helped us generate a number of forward-half turnovers. He looked in good condition and ready to go.
25. Liam Reidy
29 disposals, 24 contested possessions 13 clearances
Reidy was outstanding in the ruck. His ability to win territory and finish with 13 clearances was excellent. He was able to get us territory off the back of his clearance work, while his follow-up and pressure on the opposition were also outstanding.
30. Jack Ison
11 disposals, four tackles, four score involvements
'Iso' played across half-forward and looked exciting whenever he got the ball. He’s a dynamic player who is difficult to defend because of his quick feet. His defensive work continues to improve, and he is now working on building greater consistency across all four quarters.
37. Jordan Boyd
23 disposals, seven marks, six intercepts
‘Boydy’ is another player who continues to produce really consistent football across half-back. He won and halved a number of critical contests, while also playing an important role in our ball movement coming out of defensive 50.
38. Flynn Riley
Eight disposals, eight hitouts, one goal
Flynn Riley spent roughly 50 per cent of his time in the ruck and 50 per cent forward. In the ruck, he continues to work on his craft, particularly his connection with our midfielders and his follow-up work. As a forward, he looked dangerous, taking a couple of marks and having a couple of shots on goal. It adds another string to his bow as he continues to develop his game in that part of the ground.
40. Hudson O’Keeffe
Two disposals, two tackles, one goal
‘Skull’ played as a key forward on the day and also provided some ruck work inside forward 50. He competed hard aerially, while his voice and leadership among our forwards were really good. His reward will come on the back of his strong work ethic.
42. Adam Saad
26 disposals, nine intercepts, seven rebound 50s
‘Saady’ played across half-back and produced another strong performance. He defended well when required, while also providing plenty of offensive drive off half-back when we needed it. He was a good leader on the day.
43. Ashton Moir
18 disposals, five inside 50s, four marks
Ash played both deep forward and across half-back. As a forward, he provided strong lead-up options for our midfield and applied good pressure inside forward 50. We then moved him to half-back to provide some bounce and drive with his speed, which he did particularly well in the last quarter.
45. Flynn Young
11 disposals, six score involvements, one goal
Flynn Young played across half-forward and had a number of shots on goal. Unfortunately, he wasn’t as accurate as he would have liked, but he continued to look dangerous inside forward 50. His good positioning and work rate allowed him to get into scoring opportunities throughout the game.
