THE Carlton Football Club has today agreed to a trade that will see Brianna Davey join Collingwood, with the Blues to receive the Magpies’ first four picks in the 2019 AFLW draft.

The Blues will receive picks 2, 12, 22 and 30 in the Vic Metro player pool for the upcoming AFLW draft in exchange for Davey and the Club’s fourth and fifth round selection.
The trade will see Carlton receive a top-end first round pick for the second straight year.

Last year the Blues selected young gun Maddy Prespakis third overall, with the 18-year-old going on to win the AFLW Rising Star, Club Best and Fairest as well as being named All-Australian.

The news also comes after the Blues announced the re-signing of 21 players on Wednesday, including 18 who played in the Club’s maiden AFLW grand final appearance.

Prespakis joined Gabriella Pound, Darcy Vescio, Kerryn Harrington, Nicola Stevens, Tayla Harris, Jess Hosking, Georgia Gee and Abbie McKay in signing two-year deals with the Club.

Carlton AFLW coach Daniel Harford said the widespread and overwhelming commitment of the current playing group, as well as acquiring an additional four draft picks in this year’s draft, has the Club well-placed heading into the 2020 season and beyond.

“Brianna was a good player at our football club during her time here and brought a lot to Carlton during the first three seasons of our program,” Harford said.

“This group was so close to the ultimate success last season and to take the next step we need a fully committed playing group, striving for the same goal.

“What we have acquired in the trade is exciting for our football club, with seven draft picks inside the top 30 of the Vic Metro player pool (No.2, No.9. No.12, No. 18, No.22, No.26 and No.30).

“We saw this year the immediate impact draftees can have in the AFLW competition with Maddy Prespakis, Jayde Van Dyk, Charlotte Wilson and Jess Edwards all part of our Grand Final team.

“Add to that the fact we’ve had 21 players re-sign to remain in Navy Blue tells you how focused this group is on continuing to build something special and achieve success together.”
