AN in-form Ed Curnow is full of praise for a number of Blues who have played key roles in their recent resurgence.

The leader has been a vital part of Carlton’s run of form in the past six weeks, currently sitting third in the competition for clearances since Round 12.

He was once again at his best on the weekend, collecting 32 disposals and polling five coaches’ votes as the Blues recorded their fifth win of the season.

The 29-year-old said it had been the efforts of the collective which have held the team in good stead in recent weeks.

“We’re playing some good, strong footy so we’re pretty happy at the moment,” Curnow said on RSN’s Inner Sanctum.

“The build-up was really similar to the week before, and then it was just to challenge the group to bring the same appetite for the contest and work-rate.

“There were a few nervous times but it’s really good to get the win.”

With Patrick Cripps receiving in the knock in the first quarter, Curnow praised the contributions of other teammates in the 24-point win.

In particular, a direct positional switch made in recent weeks has seen both Curnow and a younger Blue flourish.

“It was a conversation with [David Teague] about possibly being up forward or maybe going into the midfield,” he said.

“It has worked out in the midfield for me and with Matt [Kennedy], he’s gone more forward and he’s looked pretty good.

“He’s strong in the contest and is a good set shot. He’s going well.”

Curnow’s return to familiar ground has coincided with a career-best run of form for the veteran, who has averaged just shy of 29 disposals in the last month.

Leading the way in the clearance department, Curnow said he was “loving” his return to the coalface.

“It definitely suits my game,” he said.

“I try and build my game around work-rate: simple things like running hard and then contest work.

“In the midfield, you get more opportunities to do that.”
