A ‘SIMMO’ special.

When Carlton headed to Subiaco on Friday 27 April six years ago, the Blues needed a response.

After winning the first three games, the Blues were brought down by Essendon a week prior, with a difficult trip across the Nullabor to come.

In a time where Kade Simpson was ‘only’ playing game No.162, the little warrior would produce a fine performance.

Stationed across a wing (his move down back would come a year later), Simpson went onto collect 35 disposals and kick a typical running goal at a crucial time.

Ahead by just four points heading into the main break, Simpson was the beneficiary of a turnover from - of all people - Nat Fyfe.

It was the 100th goal of Simpson’s career — a career which is still going strong to this day.

The Blues would ultimately kick out to a 31-point lead, before holding on from a rampant Fremantle to prevail by eight points.

On Brownlow night, Simpson was narrowly overlooked for the maximum amount of votes, with his good mate Heath Scotland’s 30-disposal performance receiving the plaudits.

It was just the second time in Simpson’s 162 games that he would collect 35 or more disposals in a game: in the ensuing 154, he’s achieved the feat another eight times.

He just gets better with age.
