NORTHERN Blues senior coach Josh Fraser runs through the performances of the Carlton-listed players who featured in the 37-point VFL win on Sunday.

7. Matthew Kennedy

Stats: 18 disposals, seven clearances
From the coach: Matty played a few different roles, he spent more time forward this week which was great exposure for him. I think it actually helped him have more of an impact when he was on-ball as well. As the game went on, he had more and more impact around stoppages and his ball-winning ability and the way he was able to win the footy and get it to the midfielders on the outside was great.

16. Darcy Lang

Stats: 15 disposals, six tackles, one goal
From the coach: It was a much better performance from him, he played his wing role really well and had some opportunities at half forward. He was strong over the ball, and he’ll keep getting his possession rate up as he continues building his fitness. There were some really positive signs from his game.

21. Jarrod Garlett

Stats: 10 disposals, six marks, three spoils
From the coach:
Jarrod played at half back where he showed some really good aerial stuff — he’s continuing to work hard on his defensive craft. He gives us flexibility to play forward, pinch-hit on the win and play at half back. He’s adding more strings to his game and I thought as the game wore on, he became more and more important with some intercept marks and standing up in contests.

27. Matthew Lobbe

Stats: 10 disposals, 31 hitouts, six tackles, one goal
From the coach:
Dependable all day in the ruck. He gave our mids a really good look around stoppages, he defended well when he had to and he found space and created opportunities offensively. Matty played with some bounce and spring in his step and his leadership is really consistent.

32. Alex Fasolo

Stats: 11 disposals, three marks, one goal
From the coach:
I quite liked Fas’ game, he’s not getting true reward on the scoreboard by way of goals but he’s playing his role really well. He keeps leading at the ball carrier the way we want him to, he keeps applying pressure and I feel like he’s not too far away from a big game.

36. Patrick Kerr

Stats: 14 disposals, 10 marks, 2.3
From the coach:
‘Kerry’ just kept getting better and better as the game wore on. He finished with 10 marks and five shots on goal: he’s working hard on his contested marking craft. His strength as a player is his ability to come at the ball, he’s got nice hands and a beautiful kick. Patty is putting together some strong form.

37. Ben Silvagni

Stats: 10 disposals, five rebound 50s
From the coach:
Benny’s game was quite good. He was really focused in on defending his opponent hard and getting back to a position where he could get body contact and bring the ball to ground. Ball-in-hand, he took the easy, early option and he’s becoming more familiar with the system and the way we want to play. He’s growing bit by bit.

43. Will Setterfield

Stats: 24 disposals, seven tackles, six clearances
From the coach:
A return to footy for ‘Setters’ where he played most of his game time in the middle, with little hits on the wing. He showed his contested ball-winning ability and clearance work was a strength of his, and his ability to apply pressure and use the ball well. It was a strong performance after two weeks off.

44. Matthew Owies

Stats: 11 disposals, eight marks
From the coach:
It was his best game for us. As the game went on and the ball movement started to open up, he got on the end of it with his leading. One thing that has impressed me as a small forward is his ability to apply pressure in the forward 50. He’s got something about him, Matty, and for someone who hasn’t played footy for a number of years, he’s on the right track.

45. Hugh Goddard

Stats: 19 disposals, 10 marks, six rebound 50s
From the coach: He’s becoming really reliable for us. His aerial work — both one-on-one and in a pack situation — was at a really high level, he used the ball cleanly out of our back half. Hugh helped control our defenders and set our structures up.

46. Matthew Cottrell

Stats: 12 disposals, six marks, three inside 50s
From the coach:
He’s had a really inconsistent run to start the year — he played the wing role really well and used the ball when he had it. The more exposure that he gets at this level, the better he will get.
