CARLTON is heading into Round 2 “determined” to nab their first win of 2019, according to coach Brendan Bolton.

Bolton was impressed with the Blues resilient fight-back in the season opener, but recognises the expectations of fans ahead of Round 2.

“We don’t like honourable losses,” Bolton said of the Round 1 defeat.

“We gave ourselves opportunities but didn’t capitalise.”

Port Adelaide will head into Round 2 confident after defeating the highly-rated Demons, with the Power coming away with a 26-point win away from home.

Bolton stressed the Blues will need to recapture the pressure in defence they showed against the Tigers to stifle Port Adelaide.

“They’re a fast transition team. They move the ball really quickly with fast overlap,” he said of their Round 2 opponent.

“Defensively, we’ve got to be on – I think we tackled really aggressively against Richmond.”

The Power orchestrated a comprehensive tag on Melbourne’s Max Gawn in their Round 1 clash, nullifying the All-Australian ruckman for the majority of the game.

Predicting that some of his Blues may receive similar attention, Bolton was unconcerned with the Power’s tactics against the Demons.

“It’s a compliment to our group that we’ve got a fair few players that [tagging] might happen to,” he said.

“If they do, so be it.”
