THE final team is in, and a defensive duo is back.

Carlton will receive a welcomed boost in defence through this week’s inclusions for its Round 9 clash with GWS on Sunday.

Experienced defender Nic Newman will make his return to the team after two weeks on the sidelines with patella tendon soreness.

With the likes of Kade Simpson and Liam Jones still missing from this week’s line-up, the Blues have also drawn on their youth stocks for the clash with GWS.

Harrison Macreadie will also make his return, named for his first game of senior football since Round 18 of 2017 — his debut season.

Macreadie will feature alongside first-year player Liam Stocker in the Blues’ back six for the all-important clash in enemy territory.

Carlton’s resistant defence remains its key asset in the face of a high-scoring opponent like the Giants and will benefit from Newman’s experience and Macreadie’s ability to read the play.

The talented defender overcame an injury-riddled twelve months to return through the VFL over the opening rounds of 2019.

His last stint on the sidelines with achilles inflammation proved only a minor setback for the youngster, who is now primed to make his long-awaited return to action.

Sunday’s game at Giants Stadium begins from 4:40pm.
