“I’M RAPT with what we got. Let’s get started.”

What are Carlton’s newest draftees going to provide in 2020? Excitement and entertainment.

That’s the opinion of star Blue Kerryn Harrington, who was there to witness the delight first-hand on draft day.

An All Australian in 2019, Harrington was one of those players who raised her game to another level as Carlton surged to a Grand Final last season.

Looking ahead to next year, the 27-year-old was full of praise for the talent brought into the Club earlier in the week.

“What an exciting day,” Harrington said.

“I think the most exciting thing is that the talent we have brought in complements what we already have really nicely.

“I’m so stoked for the girls and I’m excited for the Club going forward.”

Much of the hype surrounded around Carlton’s first pick in the draft, which ultimately proved to be Lucy McEvoy at pick No.2.

Having been a Blue for all of four days, comparisons are already being drawn and questions are being asked of whether she can follow in the footsteps of the best young player in the competition.

“People haven’t spoken about Madison Prespakis today: what an unbelievable pairing her and Lucy McEvoy are going to be next year,” Harrington said.

“What they write about Lucy and what they say about her absolutely rings true.

“For her to be part of our football club is going to be unbelievably exciting. I’m really keen to see what she brings.”

Harrington saw how quickly things could change: her first two seasons sum it all up.

A debut season in 2018 was marked with a wooden spoon, before the Blues made a Grand Final 12 months later under Daniel Harford.

So what message does she have for the incoming crop?

“They’re going to be encouraged to be themselves and to be the best people and footballers they can be,” she said.

“The new girls are going to bring so much energy to our group and they’re going to come into a really well-supported environment.

“Apart from them, we’ve got last year’s draft crop which are going to be so much better for the year that they had last year as well as for another pre-season.”
