The Blues went “Yellow” on Sunday in the match against Fremantle at Subiaco. Carlton wore yellow guernseys (and shorts and socks) to raise funds for cancer research in Sunday’s match in Perth.

Yellow is the colour of Livestrong and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which were established by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.

The Blues, who were scheduled to wear the white clash guernsey for the game, wore yellow on July 5 to coincide with the start of the Tour de France where Lance Armstrong will be attempting to claim a record eighth Tour victory.

As well as supporting the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the sale of the guernseys will support the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation. The Carlton Football Club has a long association with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Australia’s foremost cancer centre, primarily through the Peter Mac Cup.

Every guernsey worn by the players on Sunday is now up for Auction via the Nike website www.nkiestore.com.au with funds raised shared evenly between the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation. The guernseys feature the Livestrong logo, Armstrong’s embroidered signature and will also be signed by the player.

“The Carlton Football Club is proud to be go yellow to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation to strengthen cancer awareness, prevention, treatment and care,” said Carlton CEO, Greg Swann.

Carlton captain Chris Judd was also pleased the club was continuing to work with the community.

“Everyone at the Carlton Football Club has been impacted in some way by this devastating disease, as have many people in the community.

“It is a very rare occasion for Carlton to elect not to play in a navy blue guernsey but we are proud to go yellow to raise much-needed funds to help fight cancer,” Judd said.
