With the AFL finalising a Multicultural Team of Champions comprising players either born overseas or boasting at least one overseas-born parent yesterday, we’ve capped qualification to Carlton’s International XVIII (plus six interchange) to those players born off-shore.

Accordingly, we’ve come up with the following team, which includes Milham Hanna - the 190-game Carlton premiership player and All-Australian - who was overlooked for the League’s 50-man Multicultural squad.

Of the starting 18, seven players - Hanna, Harry Haughton, the Multicultural Team captain Alex Jesaulenko, Warren Jones, Robbert Klomp, Val Perovic and Michael Sexton - have savoured a total of 11 Grand Final victories dating as far back as 1914.

Peter Bevilacqua, whose maiden senior appearance for Carlton came in the 18th round of 1953 against North Melbourne at Arden Street, is acknowledged as League football’s only Italian-born player.
