THE Northern Blues have made their first move of the off-season, securing the signature of Jordan Cunico.

A former Geelong midfielder with five years of experience in the AFL system, Cunico is a key addition to Northern’s midfield stocks for the upcoming 2020 season.

Having waited for his chance in his opening three seasons, Cunico showed what he was truly capable of in 2018.

Playing in the midfield alongside the likes of Ablett, Dangerfield and Selwood, Cunico played 14 games in a star-studded Geelong line-up.

Overcoming injury issues in his first few seasons, Cunico broke through to average over 18 disposals at AFL level: five of those games saw him collect over 20 disposals.

Just as he seemed on the verge of establishing himself in the AFL fold, injury curtailed Cunico’s 2019 season: he has signed for Northern intent on making an impact in the VFL competition.

He’s no stranger to Victoria’s state league, averaging over 20 disposals from his 23 games across four years.

Northern Blues General Manager Ben Brennan said Cunico represented a significant signing for the Club heading into 2020.

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome Jordan to the Club: we chased him pretty heavily and we’re thrilled he has committed to us,” Brennan said.

“He was really unlucky with injury this year. He has shown that he’s a genuine AFL talent and we’re sure he’s going to have a big impact for us.

“Jordan is a really good user, can kick a goal and he’s still just 23, so we think there’s plenty of growth to come in his game.

“He’s the first of what we’re confident will be a number of key signings heading into 2020.”
