Carlton’s Ed Curnow says pre-season training under David Buttifant is the toughest training he has ever endured.

Curnow is among the squad of 31 Carlton players who are taking part in the altitude training camp in Arizona.

The 24-year-old, who is known for his stamina and endurance, says hikes through the Grand Canyon and to Humphreys Peak were treacherous but also extremely rewarding.

“It’s something we couldn’t imagine doing on our own, but collectively we got through and it was very satisfying,” Curnow said.

“It’s probably three of the toughest days of training I’ve had in my career at Carlton.

“We’ve trained in the snow and we’ve done the Canyon hike, so its been a tough couple of days, and we look forward to another week and a half of tough work with the new fitness guru on board.”
