CARLTON CEO Cain Liddle has written to members following today’s announcement by the AFL regarding a return to training and resumption of the 2020 competition.

In a detailed email to the Carlton faithful, Liddle outlined what the return to play and train protocols would mean for the Blues.

Senior Coach David Teague and his players will be back training at Ikon Park from Monday with an official restart of the AFL competition confirmed for Thursday 11 June.

Liddle outlined the protocols that had been set in place in order for the game to resume. Next week will consist of non-contract training, before full-contact sessions resume twice a week from Monday 25 May.

"Twenty-four hours before each contact training session, every player on our list will be tested for COVID-19... [and] all 18 AFL clubs will also appoint a COVID-19 compliance officer to ensure each and every protocol is adhered to," Liddle said.

"While we know the competition will recommence on Thursday 11 June, the AFL is yet to confirm a revised fixture for the 2020 season. We expect to receive this in the very near future and, as always, will communicate this information to you as soon as possible.

"It will be fantastic to see our players back at our spiritual home on Monday and while it is disappointing we will not be able to host open training sessions for the foreseeable future, rest assured we will continue to provide you with constant and insightful training content via our website and social media channels to ensure you remain connected to your football club."

Liddle also emphasised just how important the Club’s record membership base will be in not only seeing Carlton through this time but helping the Club accelerate out of it.

"The fact that our existing members have stuck with us and hundreds of new members have joined whilst the season has been in suspension puts us in a strong position to not only get through this period but accelerate out of it quickly," he said.

"That will only be possible though if we continue to stick together – players, coaches, staff, partners and especially you, our members. Members are the lifeblood of our football club and never have our members been more important than now."

In the email, Liddle also outlined that members will begin to receive information regarding their 2020 membership from Monday 25 May.
