After more than seven years at the Carlton Football Club, Chief Executive Officer Greg Swann has announced he is leaving Visy Park to pursue new opportunities, telling staff and players of his decision today.

Swann will continue in his role until after the Club’s 150th function next month, and will officially step down on June 23, the same day as Stephen Kernahan ends his Presidency.

Swann says the decision wasn’t an easy one, but it’s the right one for both himself and the Club.

“This football club has been a fantastic place to be a part of, but I feel that after seven years, the timing is now right for me to look to the next challenge,” Swann said.

“I’m confident I’m leaving the club a better place than when I started, and by announcing it now it will give the incoming regime an opportunity to hand pick a new CEO to take the club forward.”

“I want to thank the Board of Directors, especially President Stephen Kernahan for his support, along with the late Richard Pratt, who was a terrific mentor, and instrumental in bringing me to Carlton.”

“I must also acknowledge Michael Malthouse and the playing group, along with my dedicated administration team, for all their passion and hard work in what has been a very rewarding experience. Together we’ve helped put this great football club back on the right path.”

Carlton President Stephen Kernahan has thanked Swann for his hard work and commitment.

“There is no doubt that Greg Swann will leave a lasting legacy here at Carlton,” Kernahan said.

“He is a sound financial manager, a passionate leader and a person who thinks outside the square to deliver results.

“We are indebted to Greg for what he has done for our club, and wish him all the very best for more success in the future.”

Since Swann took over as Blues Chief in April 2007, Carlton has prospered on and off the field.

Off the field, total membership has increased from 28,756 members in 2006, to 50,564 last year. Total revenue has also increased from $18 million in 2006 to $57 million in 2013, while Carlton’s historical debt has been significantly reduced.

Under Swann’s guidance Carlton has also been able to secure long-term deals with key major sponsors and build strong relationships with global brands including Hyundai, Mars and Nike.

Furthermore, Swann led the way in developing the $18 million training facility that opened at Visy Park in 2010, working closely with federal, state and local governments, along with the AFL, to deliver a world-class training and administration facility.

On the field, Chris Judd, Michael Malthouse and most recently Dale Thomas, have been key signings under Swann’s leadership. Meanwhile after finishing at the bottom of the ladder in 2007, Carlton has managed to play finals four in of the past five seasons.

Carlton will immediately begin the search for a new CEO. President-elect Mark LoGiudice will oversee the process and the Club has appointed leading recruitment firm Egon-Zehnder.
