THE CONVERSATION coming out of Saturday night was all about the tall timber, and that was reflected in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year votes for Round 3.

Levi Casboult was adjudged as the most influential on the ground by his coaches, with Marc Pittonet not far behind him.

Casboult was just about unstoppable on Saturday night, hauling in five contested marks (nine in total) and two goals in the memorable win.

He performed his typical role as a forward-ruck in support of Pittonet, whose start to life in Navy Blue couldn’t have been more impressive.

With 36 hitouts, Pittonet once again displayed the physical presence which his new teammates and coaches have loved.

Not far behind them was Jacob Weitering, who moved into the top 10 after polling for the third consecutive week. The key defender continued with his brilliant form, soundly beating his direct opponent Tom Hawkins on the night.

Carlton’s co-captains both featured among the votes for the second this time year, with Patrick Cripps polling five and Sam Docherty registering a solitary vote.

Of course, the votes wouldn’t have been complete with the hero of the night: for his two goals, four goal assists and match-winning tackle, Eddie Betts was rewarded with three votes by David Teague and Chris Scott.
