Carlton Coach Mick Malthouse says the Blues have their destiny in their own hands, as the side heads into the final match of the home-and-away season in eighth position on the ladder.

The Blues face Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

Malthouse says they must play their best football to hold onto eighth place and secure a spot in the finals.

"I know that if we keep working on that process of making sure that we focus on the task at hand, then the job looks after itself," Malthouse said.

"Again, we can't afford to be worrying about what's going to happen on Sunday night when the the final eight are chosen.

"We just need to look after ourselves - and that's the fortunate position to be in at the moment."

Malthouse says midfielder Chris Judd would "most definitely" be a chance to return from a knee injury if the Blues were to make the eight.

Meanwhile, the Carlton coach has thrown his support behind the AFL's decision to place a cap on 120 interchange rotations for the 2014 and 2015 AFL Premiership Seasons.

"I think Mark Evans has done a terrific job of listening to the clubs – a terrific job," Malthouse said.

"One thing that we needed more of was us to be coaches, and not be coached by the AFL."
