The Carlton Football Club will take on arch rivals Essendon this Saturday night at the MCG, following today’s decision by the AFL and the Department of Health and Human Services for the game to safely go ahead.

The Club is satisfied with the decision, following the process undertaken by the AFL and the Department of Health and Human Services, which has determined a safe environment for a return to play.

Carlton President Mark LoGiudice confirmed the news in a letter to members today.

“We have maintained throughout this entire situation that the health and safety of our players and staff remains our number one priority,” LoGiudice said.

“With the increase in COVID-19 testing available to players and the subsequent risk to players being minimal, we are comfortable that every possible precaution has been made throughout this process to protect the safety of our people.”

The Blues are set to wear the names of members on the back of their playing guernseys on Saturday night as part of the Back our ‘Baggers campaign with co-major partner Hyundai.

LoGiudice emphasised just how important the support the Navy Blue faithful has been, during what is clearly a season like no other.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our members, who have been our backbone during this time. You are the lifeblood of the club and your loyalty and support throughout one of our most challenging periods has not gone unnoticed,” LoGiudice said.

“While we haven’t been able to have the Carlton faithful in the stands at our games supporting us, please know that your support has been felt across the entire Club.

“Having our members’ names on the back of each player’s guernsey symbolises our team’s commitment to play, not only for that member, but for each and every record-breaking Bluebagger who has kept the Club alive over these past three months. Again, we say thank you.”
