“STAY safe, stay healthy and look after each other.”

It was a simple message from Eddie Betts to the Carlton faithful back home and the wider Victorian community following the 52-point victory over the Western Bulldogs.

While the Blues play their next block of games in a hub up north, Betts was eager to acknowledge the supporters back home.

“Hopefully all the Victorians stay safe, stay healthy and look after each other back home,” Betts said.

“We’re keeping the game alive for you guys and hopefully you enjoyed the game.”

As with many of the playing group, the test for Betts will be the time spent away from his young family.

“It’s been good, but it’s been tough. I’ve got a young family at home and it’s scary,” he said.

But Carlton’s comeback hero looked right at home on Sunday night at Metricon Stadium, finishing the match with four goals and 10 score involvements.

He was duly voted as best on ground by the adoring Carlton faithful.

“We knew we had to come out strong and put the pressure on,” he said.

“We knew it was going to be a bit wet, so we thought territory and take territory.

“But when it dried up a bit, we knew if we used our hands, forwards get up and race them at the back we’d score some easy goals.”

The combination of tall and small inside 50 has been something the Blues have been fine tuning in the lead up to the clash but looked synergistic against the Bulldogs.

“We haven’t played that much together. We’re still gelling and we’re only going to get better.”
