“WE’LL GIVE it everything.”

Just as they’re relishing the chance to stay in the Gold Coast hub, Carlton’s players are looking to embrace the challenge of coming up against the ladder leaders.

Carlton will head to the Gabba on Sunday afternoon for a top-eight clash with Port Adelaide, with Jack Newnes hoping his team can build on the signs shown in the last month.

The Blues enter the contest against the Power with three wins from their last four games, with Newnes one of a number of players currently fulfilling their role.

“They are top of the ladder at the moment and it’s going to be a great test for us. We’re ready for it, we’re excited for the challenge,” Newnes said on AFL Tonight.

“Hopefully we can have a good week on the track and train well: that’s how we bounced into the game last week, we had a really good training session before the game.

“We’ll look to do that again and anything can happen: we’ll give it everything.”

Having arrived at Ikon Park last summer, Newnes believes the hub presents a chance for him to better understand and know his relatively new teammates.

Yet to miss a game in the Navy Blue, Newnes said he was loving his surroundings with the playing group.

“I’ve loved every minute of it,” he said.

“The last couple of weeks have been really good for me to get to know the guys on a really personal level.

“It’s such a great club and it’s a great vibe: all of the boys are so competitive and want to improve to get to the top.”
