ON Sunday, both Carlton and St Kilda will be standing up against racism when they walk onto Marvel Stadium together for Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

Players will be led onto the ground by their respective Indigenous players through the umpires’ tunnel on the wing.

Both sides will walk around the smoke pit before assembling in front of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags printed on the ground.

Fans will be asked to be up standing with the Carlton and St Kilda Football Clubs to stand united against racism in our game.

After the teams leave to run through their respective banners, both teams will hand over indigenous gifts at the toss of the coin.

Carlton will give St Kilda a shield, one which has been used for thousands of years by Aboriginal people. The particular shape was used to parry away spears in battle, while the design element of the shield helps to protect and keep families, women and children safe.

This shield features on the Club’s indigenous guernsey designed by Shelley Ware.
