CARLTON’S scheduled Round 9 clash with Hawthorn will now take place on Friday 31 July.

After previously being announced to take place on Thursday 30 July, the Blues will now ‘host’ the Hawks at Optus Stadium the following evening. The time will remain at 3:40pm local time (5:40pm AEST), and will be broadcast on FOX Footy.

The consideration was made due to the short turnaround time between Rounds 8 and 9, as well as the extended break to come with the bye to follow in Round 10.

Carlton’s other games against West Coast and Fremantle remain unchanged.

AFL General Manager of Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld outlined the reasons for the change.

“The change was made to afford Carlton and Hawthorn an extra days break leading into their match, and then one less day break post that match where they have a longer layoff due to quarantine in Western Australia,” Auld said.

“We thank the clubs, our venues and our broadcaster partners for being so accommodating, in what is another example of having to adjust quickly in a season full of firsts.”
