ORDINARY haircuts, a Curnow contingent and some choice nicknames.

It’s week four on the road as Carlton settles into the Western Australian leg of its journey, with routine forming as the Blues prepare for three games out west.

But according to second-year Blue Michael Gibbons, things certainly are becoming interesting in the inner sanctum.

Speaking to Triple M on Tuesday afternoon from Joondalup, this is Hub Life, according to Michael Gibbons.

The first thing to go was access to hairdressers, with assistant coach John Barker taking over barber responsibilities for the group.

“’Johnny Barber’ we call him, he’s giving haircuts to all the boys,” Gibbons said.

“I’m running with this pretty ordinary mohawk at the moment. Everyone was taking the piss out of me for 12 months.

“But now they’re all running the same haircut, so look who’s laughing now.”

With the Blues living and playing together during their interstate stay, the opportunities for team-building are greater than ever before.

But with a full squad at his doorstep, Gibbons can’t seem to get past a Curnow tag team for his most annoying teammates.

“To be fair, Ed does a puzzle a day almost, but Charlie is just still his loud annoying self,” he said.

“It’s hard to go past those Curnow brothers, I’ll tell you that.”

But perhaps the most telling element of the Blues’ strengthened bond is the raft of new nicknames to come from the journey interstate.

Whether it’s to truly welcome new players - such as Marc Pittonet - or to correct a nickname that no longer rings true (in the case of Levi Casboult), no one is spared.

“[Pittonet] has fit in really nicely with us the big fella, and we call him Gonzo out of Sesame Street,” he said.

“It’s all or nothing with the 'Big Meat' [Casboult]. He’s a legend, he’s probably my favourite player in the team.

“He’s such a good fella, we actually call him 'Big Tofu' at the moment because he’s gone vegan, so we can’t call him 'Big Meat' anymore.

“He puts all of his success down to that as well.”
