“EVERY opportunity, every minute of gameplay that we get is your best chance to get better and to practice.”

Carlton Senior Coach David Teague is not ruling out significant improvement over the remaining three rounds of the 2020 season.

Speaking to media ahead of the Blues’ Round 16 clash with the Swans, Teague spoke to the capacity for growth as the season draws to a close.

“We’ve definitely grown and learnt a lot about ourselves this year and what we’ve also learnt is that we’ve got a lot of improvement left in us,” Teague said.

“We’ve shown that we’ve competed in every game we’ve been in and that we can compete with anyone but haven’t always got the results we wanted.

“We’ve got growth, we’ve got a lot of areas to improve on still, but I think that the best thing from our playing group that we’ve got is we’ve got a lot of belief in ourselves and we know that we can do it.”

Carlton heads into the remaining games with six wins under their belt and eager to make a strong finish of a season like none before it.

For Teague, the opportunity of the next two weeks comes in measuring up against teams that span the current ladder.

“We understand we’ve got some growth areas and we want to go out there and work on those and improve and continue to get better,” Teague said.

“The players get the chance to play with each other and continue to learn about themselves and each other and we’ve got at least three more games to do that.

“We expect to go out there and continue to learn and continue to grow and continue to get better.”

Highlighting focus areas for the Blues in the upcoming matches, Teague believes it will be a matter of breaking trends in-game contributing to disappointing results.

At the core of this approach is a sustained four-quarter effort with improved decision-making with a ball in hand a key emphasis.

“It’s an ability to control the situation and make the right decisions and the right plays over four quarters, it wasn’t just last week’s game after four days, it’s been a learning pattern of ours that we’ve needed to get better,” Teague said.

“There’s been some trends that we’ve reviewed closely and we’ve learnt.

“I think we’ve shown some growth in that area in terms of being able to get it back in our front half but I think we need to turn it into scores and we need to probably need to be better in some critical contests and when the pressure is on.”
