The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce that Marc Murphy has signed with the Club until the end of the 2011 season.

Murphy, 21, was the number one selection at the 2005 NAB AFL Draft. A Rising Star nominee in his first AFL Game, (Round 1, 2006) Murphy has played 57 games for Carlton and in 2008 finished runner up in the John Nicholls Medal, behind captain, Chris Judd.

"It’s an exciting time to be involved with the club. We have been through the hard times and we all want to be part of the good times that we know aren’t too far away. I am looking forward to a successful future and I really want to be a member of Carlton’s next premiership team," Marc Murphy said.

“We are delighted to secure Marc’s services for a further three seasons. He is an important young player, who will play a major role in the long-term future of the Carlton Football Club,” CEO Greg Swann said.

Recruited from Beverley Hills via the Oakleigh Chargers, Murphy was the 1091st player to represent the Carlton Football Club.

In 2006 he was awarded the AFLPA’s Best First Year Player, despite injuring his shoulder against Brisbane in Round 13, an injury that ruled him out of the remainder of the 2006 season. Murphy also received the award as Carlton’s Best First Year Player in 2006 and was a member of Carlton’s 2007 Pre-Season Premiership team.

Murphy is currently in Perth preparing for Australia’s International Rules match against Ireland on Friday.
