IN LIGHT of the latest update provided by the Victorian Department of Health overnight, the Carlton Football Club has made the decision to cancel Saturday night’s John Nicholls Medal at Crown Palladium.

Carlton CEO Cain Liddle said the health and safety of everyone involved remained the Club’s priority.

“The health and safety of our players, coaches, staff, members and the wider public has and always will be our club’s number one priority,” Liddle said.

“As a result of the unfortunate information released by the Department of Health last night, we would simply not be able to deliver the 2020 John Nicholls Medal in the manner we intended.

“While we were certainly looking forward to finally having our football club back together again – something we have greatly missed over the last 12 months, we acknowledge that right now this is the right thing to do, for our club, for our guests and for the wider public.

“A focus for us has been on providing Kade Simpson and Matthew Kreuzer, two champions of our Club, as well as our 2020 AFLW Best and Fairest winner Madison Prespakis, along with the announcement of a club Legend, with the fitting acknowledgement they deserve, and we remain committed to doing that at another time.”

The Club will now commence plans to host an alternative event in the coming weeks, with the aim to have members and corporate partners able to tune into the revised event via an online platform.

More information will be provided at the appropriate time.
