NOT discounting a rebound following last night’s loss to the Western Bulldogs, senior coach Daniel Harford urged his Blues to find a new level of hunger.

Speaking to media following the six-point loss to the Bulldogs, Harford was clear in his directive for the week ahead: there’s work to be done.

“I think the Dogs were hungrier than us I must admit. It wasn’t so much the last quarter, it was all through the game,” Harford said.

“They had really dominant patches and we didn’t cope well with those patches at all. We made bad errors skill-wise, execution-wise, decision-making and we lost a bit of confidence.”

Despite the disappointing start to their 2021 campaign, Harford has faith in the Blues ability to address deficiencies and get their season back on track.

“Unfortunately we went through this zero and two thing a couple of years ago and we rebounded really strongly and ended up making the Grand Final that year,” he said.

“I don’t want to take too much away from the Doggies because they were really good, but our performance tonight was nothing like we are as a team and what we try to accomplish as a team during any given game.

“We’ve got to probably dig really deep into the numbers, dig deep into the psyche of the players and find out why what is happening, is happening.”

Despite the disappointing result, second-gamer Mimi Hill stood out as a strong performer for the Blues: she collected 19 disposals through the midfield.

Praising the young Blue for her contribution so early in her AFLW career, Harford was quick to call out the 2020 draftee for her efforts.

“Tonight I thought, particularly early in the game, she saved us a lot. She’s a terrific kid, she works her backside off,” he said.

“When you’re going to invest your first pick in a kid you want to make sure they are able to contribute pretty quickly and Mim's been terrific in that.

“I thought her game tonight was full of leadership and almost played beyond her years.”
