CHANCES are you don’t need to be told about the standing of Eddie Betts at the Carlton Football Club — and the AFL as a whole.
The reaction when Betts dribbled one home in the second quarter of his 200th Carlton game said it all.
It was that double century milestone which only added to Betts’ credentials, becoming only the second Indigenous Blue to play 200 games for the Club.
But if Betts has his way, it won’t be too long before some of his current teammates join him and Andrew Walker.
Having raced to 83 games since his debut in 2017, Betts said that he was already hoping for Sam Petrevski-Seton to go past him.
“It’s very special to reach that milestone at a bit club like this: the Carlton Football Club, 200 games,” Betts said in a special milestone edition of Spotlight.
“What I want, though, is I want Samo to play more games than [himself and Walker]. He’s the one.
"My time is coming to an end. Samo is the next Indigenous player coming up and I want him to take that title.”
Betts and Petrevski-Seton are two of five Indigenous players on Carlton’s AFL list in 2021, alongside Liam Jones, Jack Martin and Zac Williams. Nat Plane and reigning AFLW MVP Madison Prespakis are also crucial players for the Game Changers in the AFLW competition.
Betts said he couldn’t wait to see what Petrevski-Seton - who impressed with his flair across half back against Fremantle - would achieve in the Navy Blue.
“He could be anything,” he said.
“I want him to drive for success and lead this club forward.
“Hopefully he’ll take that title off of me and ‘Walks’, I think [he will].”
