Sam Docherty took on a new role in 2023, rolling through the midfield rather than lining up at half back – a testament to the speed and endurance of the 30-year-old.
Still chopping out the backline when need be, Docherty’s trademark clean hands and work rate were on show throughout the season, averaging 25 disposals and four tackles.
Docherty slotted a career-high eight goals for the season, usually opting to take his chances from outside the 50-metre arc, using his penetrating kick to bring the fans to their feet.
Playing his 150th game in Round 8, it was a special moment when he was able to run through the banner with his daughter Ruby for the first time.
Unfortunately, Docherty injured his ACL in the Opening Round of 2024 and will miss the remainder of the season.
